UML290 tips

We have had numerous customers experiencing strange drop outs when using the new Verizon Pantech LTE modem.   This has happened with both Cradlepoint routers and the Nexaira units.

It appears to be a problem with Verizon and the Pantech unit, rather than the actual routers.   Generally the same thing will happen even with the modem connected directly to a computer.

If you area experiencing problems, you may want to try updating to the latest firmware on the actual modem itself.  WARNING  This update can create problems where there are none, we ONLY recommend this update if you are having drop out problems with your UML290 now!

Update at your own risk, for instructions CLICK HERE

If you are on the fringe of the 4G coverage, or need to lock the modem into either 3G or 4G for any reason, follow the instructions below.

The following link will take you to the Pantech Windows tool:  PANTECH FIX TOOL

This allows you to change the CDMA preferred mode from eHRPD to EVDO Rev A, after which the card will be compatible with the router in both 3G and LTE modes.  You can also manually select 3G only (CDMA/HDR Only) or 4G (LTE only) if you are having issues switching between modes.

See the screenshot below which shows the checkbox to select.

 Instructions:

 1) Plug UML290 into a Windows computer

2) Run the Pantech Preferred Mode Tool

3) Click "Read" button at the bottom to read the current settings off the card

4) Under "HDR" section, select "Rev A" instead of "eHRPD"

5) Click "Write" to save the settings. The card will restart.

After this is done, you can plug the modem into our router, and it will come online LTE if the network is available, or CDMA if no LTE service is available
